Womens Health

Many changes occur to a woman’s body during pregnancy.  Some of the major systems, which are affected by pregnancy, are the cardiovascular system, the respiratory system, and the musculoskeletal system.

In addition to normal changes, many women experience the onset of pain or certain disease processes while carrying a child.

Physical therapists can help to educate women while they are pregnant and after the delivery.  Physical therapy sessions may also help women stay healthier throughout their pregnancies and return to their prior level of function more quickly.  Some studies even suggest that labor and delivery may be less difficult for women who exercise during their pregnancy.

Supervision is important when beginning an exercise program during pregnancy.  The trained staff at Riata Therapy Specialists can help you develop an appropriate program during your pregnancy.

Riata Therapy Specialists offers a variety of services to suit the needs of nearly any expectant mom or post-partum woman.

Aquatic Therapy– exercises in a pool designed to help stretch, strengthen, or relieve pain and improve mobility.  The water is an excellent place for pregnant women to exercise because it allows decreased weight bearing through all the joints of the body.
